Soundarya (18 July 1972 – 17 April 2004), born Sowmya Sathyanarayana, was an Indian actress known primarily for her work in Telugu cinema, with additional appearances in Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam films. She is regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Indian cinema and established herself as the most popular Telugu actress of the 1990s.

Soundarya was born as the second child to film producer and script writer K. S. Sathyanarayana and Manjula. She discontinued her Intermediate after the first year in Bangalore. On 27 April 2003, she married software engineer G. S. Raghu. Her screen name was given by Kannada film personality Kunigal Vasanth.
Her first film was the Kannada Baa Nanna Preethisu (1992), followed by the hit Gandharva (1992). Her Telugu debut was Manavarali Pelli (1993). She gained acclaim for her Tamil debut Ponnumani (1993), playing a mentally disabled person. Commercial recognition came with Hello Brother (1994). She won awards for Ammoru (1995), Pavitra Bandham (1996), and Anthahpuram (1998). She starred alongside Rajinikanth in Arunachalam (1997) and Padayappa (1999), and with Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi film Sooryavansham. In 2002, she produced and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film for Dweepa. Her last film was Apthamitra (2004), a runaway hit.
Soundarya died on 17 April 2004 in a plane crash in Bengaluru along with her brother Amarnath. The Cessna 180 aircraft crashed on the campus of the Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra after stalling at 150 feet.
